Fostering Growth in Engineering
In an ever-evolving tech landscape, Northrop Grumman is committed to nurturing the next generation of engineers through its comprehensive 12-month Industrial Placement Programme. Rajveer, a Software Engineer Industrial Placement Student, has joined the company with a determination to apply her skills and gain hands-on experience in meaningful projects.
A Journey Begins with Curiosity
Rajveer began her internship at Northrop Grumman in September 2025. Her path to NG started when she sought a year-in-industry placement, discovering the organisation through Bright Network and further research on LinkedIn. “I applied to Northrop Grumman because I was eager to contribute to a company that produces tangible and meaningful outcomes,” she explained.
Rajveer was impressed by the positive environment fostered by the employees she interacted with during the interview process. “The interviewer answered my question about why they liked working at NG with genuine enthusiasm, which influenced my decision to join,” she said.
During her first week, Rajveer participated in an induction that included talks from employees across the business, which set a motivating tone for her time at NG. “It was a great introduction to Northrop Grumman and made me appreciate the work we do here,” she recalled.
Skills Development and Support
As an Industrial Placement Student, Rajveer has leveraged various training resources including access to Pluralsight, an extensive hub of online courses. “These resources have been incredibly useful for building my technical skills in MongoDB, JavaScript, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, and testing frameworks,” she noted.
In addition to technical development, Rajveer has also focused on enhancing her soft skills through workshops and sessions that emphasises teamwork and communication. “The soft skill sessions were beneficial and reminded me that my placement with Northrop Grumman supports growth in every aspect,” she added.
Reflecting on her experience so far, Rajveer highlighted the collaborative atmosphere at Northrop Grumman, describing her colleagues as welcoming and supportive. “There’s a friendly vibe, and people are always willing to help,” she said.
As she moves further into her placement, Rajveer emphasises the importance of staying curious. She advises aspiring engineers to research thoroughly before their interview with Northrop Grumman and remain confident. “Be curious and do plenty of research to familiarise yourself with the company and its values,” she said. “Don’t feel pressure during the interview process; the interviewers are nice and want you to succeed.”
The lessons Rajveer is learning at Northrop Grumman are invaluable, equipping her with the skills and confidence to excel in her future career. “The internship is not only about developing technical knowledge but also about understanding the impact of our work and how to contribute to projects that support customers and the community,” she explained.
With a strong start to her career at Northrop Grumman, Rajveer is eager to make a lasting impact in the Defence industry and reinforce her commitment to making a difference through technology.
