A Culture of Support and Development

Northrop Grumman is investing in the future of software engineering by supporting early-career talent like Sukhraj. As a returning Industrial Placement Student, Sukhraj rejoined Northrop Grumman in September 2025 as a Graduate Software Engineer after finishing his degree. During his time with the company so far, he has seen remarkable progress in his technical and soft skills, creating a solid foundation for a successful career in Defence.

Commitment to development

Training and development have been crucial to Sukhraj’s growth at NG so far. He has accessed a wide range of resources and training programmes, including Pluralsight, to enhance his skill set in Python, AWS, Docker, JavaScript, Java, and Bash. In addition to technical skills, he has focused on developing his networking, project management, and time management skills. “These soft skills have been enhanced through induction week sessions and regular workshops throughout the Graduate Programme,” Sukhraj explained.

Throughout his journey, Sukhraj has taken a proactive approach, determined to get involved with opportunities at Northrop Grumman. During his internship, he volunteered to create a video highlighting company culture for an internal event. The end result was a fantastic showcase of our colleagues and life at NG. “During the project, I had the chance to travel to different offices, work with our leadership team, and meet even more people across NG,” he said.

A Place to Belong and Thrive

One of the standout features of Northrop Grumman, Sukhraj noted, is the supportive culture fostered by its employees. “The best part about working here is the people. It feels like a massive family,” he said. The friendly atmosphere makes it easy to approach colleagues for help with work or support for career development.

Flexibility also plays a significant role in helping Sukhraj maintain a healthy work-life balance. “The compressed work schedule with every other Friday allows me to engage in activities I enjoy outside of work, such as going to the gym and spending time with family.”

“NG does things differently,” said Sukhraj. “The customer relationships and the smart individuals here create an environment where you can close a large knowledge gap in a short period. I’ve definitely become a better developer than I was just last year.”

As Sukhraj continues his journey at Northrop Grumman, he looks forward to further personal and professional growth. The dedicated support and exposure to various aspects of business enable him to discover more about himself and his interests, providing a robust foundation as he continues his career in Defence.
