Meet Sharjeel
Verification and Validation Engineer at Northrop Grumman UK

Shaping the Future
Sharjeel, a Senior Verification & Validation Engineer, exemplifies the dedication and expertise necessary to uphold the standards, safety and reliability of the critical systems Northrop Grumman is known for.
Since joining the company in September 2023, he has made significant strides, progressing from a Graduate role to senior engineering responsibilities.
Journey into Defence
Sharjeel’s journey into Defence started from childhood as he was born on an airbase. “Therefore, I was naturally keen on working in Defence. I studied Aerospace Engineering at university and completed a BEng,” he said. Sharjeel applied to join Northrop Grumman and secured a spot on our Graduate Programme. “I’ve since completed a brilliant two years at NG with many rotations before rolling off the programme as a senior engineer.”
Pride in High Safety Standards
In his current role as a Senior V&V Engineer, Sharjeel is responsible for breaking down customer requirements into work packages for mechanical, hardware, electrical, and software engineers. “I ensure that our systems go through several types of testing before they are delivered to the customer,” he described.
Sharjeel’s work not only involves technical proficiency but also requires him to foster relationships across disciplines. He actively participates in peer reviews and collaborates with cross-functional teams. “I enjoy the complexity of ensuring our systems meet high safety standards, and I am proud to contribute to the reliability of defence projects,” he noted.
Inspiring the future of Defence
An experience that stands out in Sharjeel’s career so far was being invited back to his university to represent Northrop Grumman at a careers fair. “It was rewarding to give back to both the university and the students who aspire to enter the engineering field,” he said.
Development Opportunities
Professional development and mentoring are vital components of Sharjeel’s journey. He has participated in various soft skills workshops and benefited from a mentor while on the Graduate Programme. Later on, he was nominated by his manager to complete Northrop Grumman’s Tech Starter course. Over three months, he gained a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) qualification and further developed his technical skills with a cohort of peers. “The course taught me the foundational principles of MBSE, greatly aiding my transition from a V&V Engineer into a Systems V&V Engineer,” he explained.
A Mission to Believe In
“There is a sense of deep trust and loyalty when you are part of a company as prestigious as Northrop Grumman. To work on industry leading projects is a privilege. I understand that rigorous testing directly contributes to the safety and reliability of the systems we provide,” he said. This knowledge motivates him to maintain high standards in all his work, knowing the ultimate impact his efforts have on the future of Defence.
Sharjeel describes the culture at Northrop Grumman as one that genuinely encourages growth and development. “Everyone is willing to lend a hand. You can turn to anyone in the office and ask a question,” he noted. The collaborative spirit fosters an environment where success is shared.
As he continues his career at Northrop Grumman, Sharjeel exemplifies the qualities essential in creating Defence systems – quality, safety and reliability.
